Winter 2026 - Environment and Society Reimagined (ENV S 200)

This winter, the Interdepartmental PhD Emphasis in Environment & Society (IPEES) invites graduate students from across campus to enroll in its Core Seminar:

ENV S 200: Environment and Society Reimagined
Tuesdays, 1:00–3:30 p.m. | Instructor: Dr. Summer Gray

This seminar offers space to slow down, reflect, and explore what it means to live and think within the entanglement of environment and society. In a world where ecological, social, and political systems are deeply intertwined, we’ll consider how power, connection, and care shape both our understanding of the world and our responses to environmental and social challenges. Through shared readings and dialogue, participants will engage environmental thought, social theory, and lived experience to explore what becomes possible when the environment and society are understood as co-creative forces shaping how we live, learn, and respond to the world.

Who can enroll:
All doctoral students are welcome whether or not they are pursuing the IPEES certificate. The course is designed for students across disciplines who want to deepen or expand their engagement with environmental questions and the social worlds they inhabit.

The Interdepartmental PhD Emphasis in Environment & Society (IPEES) fosters collaboration among students and faculty exploring environmental issues through diverse lenses.
